L.A. Times & New York Times' Ethical Guidelines For Employees

Though Altshcull and other critics of American Journalism seem to posit that journalists lack any form of an institutionalized ethical code, these two well-renowned news organizations do. Both the L.A. Times and the New York Times have multi-page documents directly available through their websites displaying a code of ethics they expect their journalists to follow. Though the documents are by no means all-encompassing, they provide a solid framework of ethical considerations for a journalist, while still allowing the journalist themselves to factor in their own ethical codes.
If anybody else finds further institutionalized ethical guidelines laid out by news organizations or journalist's themselves, let us compare and contrast them, deeming whether any over-arching ethical sentiments can be found.

  1. Usually in this class I bring in a chunk of the NYTimes ethics guide - very detailed and very high-minded it is - but I've never looked at the LA Times. Did you examine these two closely enough to note any significant differences, if only in length??
